International Standard ISO 12156 has been updated.  There are now two acceptable methods for measuring the wear scar:

Method “A” — Digital camera, and

Method “B — Visual observation.

Please Note Method “A” is the preferred method due to its improved precision

Both updated versions includes tighter limits on the laboratory air conditions in which the tests should be carried out.

The original test method includes the graph below. This shows the permissible air conditions for the test to conform to the standard.

A correction factor is stated to correct any results recorded when the lab conditions are outside the limits shown in the graph below.
