Leeds-Lyon Symposium 2024
From September 2nd to 4th, PCS Instruments attended the Leeds Lyon Symposium 2024 held at Hotel Valpré in Lyon, France. Represented by our team members Eleanor Barrett and Kieran Nar, the event brought together around 250 participants, with a diverse mix of academic professionals and industry representatives.
A significant highlight of the conference was the emphasis on industry-driven research, with many presentations showcasing projects which are directly tied to real-world applications, which perfectly reflects the growing collaboration between tribological academia and industry.
Key themes covered during the three days included electric vehicles (EVs), ammonia applications, high-pressure tribological work, steel treatment techniques, and the use of copper as an additive. The conference was packed with engaging talks, and we were pleased to see many new faces, including chemists and engineers who are new to the field of tribology! Their openness to learning and receptivity to advice from the tribology community were positive signs of the growing importance of tribological research, making the event a great opportunity for knowledge exchanges.
Among the standout presentations were Marco Scuderi’s talk on earthquake tribology, showcasing a rig designed to simulate fault lines, and Koji Matsumoto’s insights from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency on using PEEK composites in sliding mechanisms for space applications. We were especially proud to see many presentations featuring PCS Instruments’ products, including the MTM, MPR, and HFRR!
Lyon served as a stunning and historic backdrop for the event, and really enhanced the conference experience.
We’re looking forward to next year’s Leeds-Lyon symposium in Leeds, which will be extra-special as it will be the 50th Leeds-Lyon conference, and will focus on tribological challenges underpinning the innovations of the next 50 Years!
