The Influence of Engine Oils on Friction Reduction

The use of low friction engine oils can improve engine fuel efficiency and lead to significant reductions in the level of gaseous emissions as well as help to conserve natural resources. One route by which friction may be reduced is the reduction of lubricant viscosity. This reduction, however, can lead to both increased wear and increased friction because of the reduction of lubricant film thickness consequential upon this reduction in friction.
