‘I studied film and media, which led me to work on independent films as an assistant producer on an ad-hoc basis, but I have always had a full-time job alongside these contracts. However, while looking for a new job, I specifically geared my search towards administrative-related positions as I was looking to improve my administrative skills across the board. That’s how I came across PCS Instruments through a temporary, mat-leave cover position. I enjoyed working with everyone so much that there was no hesitation when they offered me this new position – they had caught wind of my experience with videography, editing, and graphic design skills. As PCS didn’t have any dedicated ‘creatives’, it seemed I filled the gap! We started re-structuring the videos, reviewing the visual designs and mock-ups almost immediately; it’s been a wonderful combination of my love for visual content and managing projects.

Although PCS is growing and evolving, it has always been a nice place to work, which is what made me want to stay. People take the time to chat, whether over a coffee break or lunch on the roof; there’s always time to hear what people are up to at the weekend or the latest movie they’ve seen. It’s a chilled-out atmosphere, almost a reflection of the founders John and Clive— a friendly, supportive, and encouraging environment.

The marketing department has had one of the biggest revamps in the company recently, going from a couple individuals working with external designers and vendors to facilitate any marketing requirements to a growing team of four. We’re an incredibly collaborative team, keen to produce new and exciting content. Where we once had no copywriters or in-house creatives, we now have it all, which means we have a lot of work to do but it’s ours to make our mark, adding to the brand PCS is known for.

Companies I’ve previously worked for all had similar issues; the environments were somewhat negative, and they often wouldn’t take the time to nurture their staff, nor care for their wellbeing. Growth or progression was a brutal competition, and the winners usually maintained the same unfair regulations put into practice. Your voice would only be heard if it was in chorus with what you were told, even if it wasn’t appropriate. My confidence truly took a beating. Moving on to PCS has made a huge difference for me.

PCS is one of the only companies that genuinely cares about me and considers my views and opinions while offering a platform to learn and grow. There is a wonderful balance between a thriving business and staff welfare; you can find that here.’
